For five consecutive Fridays, an online film series explores Orientalism, a trend that permeated European and American popular culture in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Inspired by travel and trade with places like North Africa, Japan, China, and the Middle East, artists of the period combined Eastern design elements with Western tastes, creating a new movement that influenced homes and art galleries throughout the Western hemisphere.
