This lecture considers the historically complex and diverse styles of dress that developed in North Africa, concentrating on the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It considers how handwoven wool cloaks, massive amber necklaces, and embroidered silk waistcoats were the result of extensive trade networks and served as prominent status symbols.
